What a wonderfully crazy month it’s been for us…

WE’RE FEATURED ON JACK WHITE’S NEW ALBUM BLUNDERBUSS!

This month we’re excited to announce that you can hear us on Jack White’s debut solo album Blunderbuss! We played with him on the song “I Guess I Should Go to Sleep.” The album is due out in just a few short days (via Third Man Records) and we’re thrilled to be a part of it. Working with Jack in the studio this past year has been an honor and privilege we’ll never forget. For a look into the making of the record (and some details of our involvement), you can watch Bob Boilen’s interview with Jack on the NPR website.

Not only that, but we’ll also be joining Jack White in concert this spring as part of his Blunderbuss tour! We’ll be opening for two of his shows—on May 30th and 31st—at the fabulous Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles, CA. For tickets and more information, visit our tour dates page.

STILL TOURING THROUGH EUROPE!

It might go without saying, but our tour through Europe has been an absolute blast so far. It’s great to have a chance to connect with all our supportive fans across the pond—the crowds in Ireland, Scotland and England during our March portion of the tour were some of the biggest and rowdiest we’ve had the pleasure to play for! This month we’ve been making our way through Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, and still have a few more countries to hit! The experience has been amazing and we’ve been in awe of the rich history and cultural traditions these countries have to offer. We have to say we’ll be sad to say goodbye…but you still have a few more chances to see us as we wrap up our tour in The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. NEW SONG ON YOUTUBE AND NEW SUMMER FESTIVAL DATES ANNOUNCED!

While on the road we’ve also been working hard on more material for the next album (for a peek at one of our fresh new tunes, take a look at our performance at Schorem Barbershop courtesy of our YouTube channel). We’re writing new songs every week and looking forward to our return to the US where we’ll be hitting the studio to finish up what’s sure to be our best album to date! But this doesn’t mean we’ll be holing up in the studio all summer…festival season is upon us and we’ll be playing some pretty swell ones this summer once we’re back state-side! In the US, we’ll have the honor of playing at Rochester Jazz Festival (New York), Donkey Creek Festival (Wyoming), Twangfest (Missouri) and ROMP (Kentucky), among others. We’ll then be making the rounds through Canada at Winnipeg Folk Festival, Calgary Folk Music Fest, Regina Folk Festival and more. In addition to our festival gigs, we’ll also be making a few stops at some of the finest venues east of the Mississippi. And we’re still working on more tour dates too! ONE OF THE GREATEST IN ST. LOUIS…

St. Louis has always been good to us and now our hometown has honored us yet again by naming us one of the 100 greatest musicians in St. Louis history!We’re immensely flattered to be featured alongside such legends as Chuck Berry, Tina Turner, Miles Davis and more. Hello friends,

Lots of exciting news for you this month! We are so pleased to announce that we have been recognized by the 11th Annual Independent Music Awards! Our newest album, Middle of Everywhere has been nominated for Best Americana Album, and the song “Ain’t the Same” has been nominated for Best Americana Song. This makes four IMA nominations for us in the last two years! The winners will be announced in April, although there’s a second part of the awards called the Vox Populi, where you’re able to vote for your favorite music! Be sure to visit the Vox Populi page and vote for us! No matter what the outcome of the awards, these nominations are quite an honor, and we thank you for all your support over the last couple of years!

Our spring European tour has kicked off just fine… all sold out shows so far in Dublin, Cork, and Belfast! We’ll be headed through England, Scotland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, The Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria the next couple of months. Many of our performances have already sold out or moved to bigger venues! Come summertime, we’ll be traveling through North America sharing stages with many notable artists in the USA and appearing at festivals in Canada. Check out our tour schedule to see if we are headed near you, and be sure to check back often to our tour dates page on our website, as we’re adding more and more tour dates by the day for the Summer and Fall 2012!

We’ve been working on a few new projects and can’t wait to share them with you! We’ve got a couple of vinyl-only singles that are arriving soon… the first one from UK-based Evangelist Records… it’s going to be a 78″ record! The official release date is April 21, but we’ll have some available for sale on our Spring European tour beginning with our London shows the week of March 26. We also have a split 7″ single with the Rum Drum Ramblers, arriving soon on Free Dirt Records! It’s the soundtrack 7″ recording for the film Brick by Chance and Fortune, directed by our good friend Bill Streeter. That one should be coming in May 2012. Both vinyl recordings will be available to all sometime in the very near future on our web store too. And hang tight just a teeny tiny bit longer for some of our other projects and events (and yes, we have a LOT more…), we’ll be announcing more of our latest ventures soon. Oh, and don’t forget, our Facebook page will soon switch to the Timeline feature, allowing y’all to watch what we’ve been up to. We’ve really enjoyed our down time this winter, spending time with friends and family, writing new songs, and just takin’ it easy. But we’re really gettin’ antsy to get back on the road, and we’ll be doing just that very soon! Today we’re doing a small trip through MIssouri, Tennesse and Illinois, and then we’re off to Europe for our big tour through Ireland, England, Scotland, Belgium, The Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria! And if you haven’t gotten tickets yet, now might be the right time! Quite a few shows have already sold out, and in some instances, we’ve had to move to bigger venues!

Dear Friends,

We hope you have enjoyed the start of 2012 as much as we have! We’d like to keep you updated on what we will be doing for the rest of the year, but first we’d like to thank you for joining us to ring in the new year with Jool’s Holland’s Hootenanny on New Years Eve. We were blown away by the massive positive response! The performance was one of our most significant moments yet, and we sincerely thank you for allowing us such a good time. We’ve been relaxing and recharging our batteries since the new year began, but plan on visiting you this spring! We will be playing a few select dates in the Midwest, USA during February and will spend seven weeks from March until May playing in ten countries in Europe, including Ireland, England, Scotland, Holland, Denmark, France, Germany and Switzerland. Get your tickets while you still can, as the shows are selling out! You can find the most up-to date information about our touring schedule on the “Tour Dates” page on our website (click here for all the details). We’ll also be performing in a quite a few North American festivals this summer, which should be a real treat. Stay tuned for more details about those coming in the next few weeks.

A few other notes…

In the coming weeks we’re going to be working on a new video for a song from our most recent album Middle of Everywhere… send us a note and try to guess which one it is!

As we approach the end of 2011, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be appearing on BBC’s annual New Year’s Eve program “Hootenanny” with the legendary U.K. musician, bandleader and television host Jools Holland!

The program will air at 11 p.m., December 31, 2011 until 1 a.m., January 1, 2012 on BBC Two in the UK. We can’t wait to ring in the new year with other talented artists, including Cyndi Lauper, James Morrison, Aloe Blaac, Ruby Turner, Sandie Shaw, Betty Wright, and The Vaccines. You’ll be able to watch the program anywhere in the UK, although it’s not available for streaming anywhere else in the world at this time that we know of, sorry folks! If we figure out how you can watch the program outside of the UK, we’ll let you know.

We really can’t express in words how excited we are to have the opportunity to perform on such a popular show. We’re grateful for being selected, and honored as one of the few American bands to be featured on the program this year.

Thank you again for making 2011 our best yet. We appreciate your support, and we hope to keep on pleasin’ ya in 2012!

Oh yeah, and don’t forget about our last couple of shows in 2011, all three with Kansas City’s own The Wilders! They’re going to be legendary shows for sure. See the full schedule and ticket information at the bottom of this newsletter. Hope to see you there!

Happy holidays! We’ve been roaming through the warm Savannah of Southeast USA for the past few weeks, and it’s been a nice way to greet the winter. We made a stop in Florida for Thanksgiving and played a few shows in between turkey, stuffing, and slices of pumpkin pie before heading back home to St. Louis.  We’ll be back on the road again soon, visiting Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, and Kansas, as well as a few pit stops in Missouri, to close out a great year (be sure to see our December tour dates listed in full below)!
 
2011 has been good to us. We’re thankful for the opportunity to share stages with The Wilders, The Dirt Daubers, The Two Man Gentlemen Band, Southern Culture on the Skids and many others while touring these past few months. We released the album Middle of Everywhere earlier this year and have been overwhelmed by the positive response from both critics and our fans. Our travels overseas to Europe have been especially rewarding. From the Shetland Islands Folk Festival in the UK, to the Take Root Festival in Holland, to the the Discovery Music Series in Norfolk, Virginia and the Americana Music Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, we’re fixing to find our place in the festival scene, and are looking forward to quite a few more in 2012! We’ll even add Germany and Denmark to the list of places we visit! 
 
It was a privilege producing the single “Chitlin’ Cookin’ Time in Cheatham County/Pack it Up” with Jack White’s Third Man Records, released earlier this year in March. Our tunes even made it to the big screen in BRICK BY CHANCE & FORTUNE, a documentary about the fine bricks of St. Louis. The documentary was produced by fellow St. Louisan Bill Streeter, who directed the video “So Long, Honeybee, Goodbye” from Middle of Everywhere. 

Are y’all hankerin’ for more tunes? We’re planning on spending some time in the studio creating a few. Keep your ears open for a new record sometime in the next 12 months or so. AND, we have a big announcements coming up that you won’t want to miss!

It’s been a continuing trend these last few months… head out on the road for three to four weeks, come back to St. Louis for a few days of a little R&R, and then head on out on the road once more.  Well, it’s about that time to take off again!  But before we do that, we wanted to briefly share with you some of the highlights from our October run through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions of the USA…

We kicked things off at The Americana Music Conference where we played at The Basement in Nashville, TN. We then made our way up through North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, and the rest of the Northeast USA with The Dirt Daubers  and the Two Man Gentlemen Band joining us for a few dates.  Both groups are dear friends of ours, and it was a real hoot to share the stage with them. Our shows in Washington, D.C., Cambridge, MA, Burlington, VT, and New York, NY were especially notable, as these shows were either sold out or at capacity. We’re so grateful for the large and enthusiastic crowds. Thank you so much for coming out to see us!

A few other notes about the tour… we received much praise from the media, including nice pieces from The Boston Globe, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and NPR Music.
